I ordered the enchiladas, and my wife had the flautas along with a peach margarita. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The sauces were incredible, especially the mole — you can tell they specialize in rich, traditional flavors. The peach margarita was one of the best we’ve ever had.
Tacos were amazing!! It was our favorite. Staff are kind and the place had a really nice vibe and vibrant colors. Will need to return again and try other dishes.
Red Iguana is a must-visit in Salt Lake City. The food was outstanding — rich, bold flavors and authentic Mexican comfort in every bite.
I highly recommend you request a mole sampler! You can then find your favorite mole. The tacos as the main course were a favorite, our waiter also recommended them and thought they were a great choice. He was right. The dessert was fairly priced and definitely large enough to split. The decorations all matched the aesthetic they were going for. The restaurant is a little small and was already packed by 6pm for dinner on a Tuesday night. The area the restaurant is around I would describe as sketchy, and leaning towards future gentrification. I highly recommend coming here for food, you will love the flavors they provide and will leave with a fully belly.
If you’re in Salt Lake City and you haven’t eaten at Red Iguana, you’re truly missing one of the most authentic, flavorful, and unforgettable Mexican food experiences in the entire country. This restaurant isn’t just good — it’s legendary. The moment you walk through the door, you can feel the warmth, history, and pride that this family-run establishment puts into every single plate.
Yeah this place is pretty excellent. You need to get the mole sampler or you are doing yourself a large disservice. They have so many great homemade recipe moles that just blow my mind… it was very hard to choose one.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Red Iguana, and I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, and every dish was cooked to perfection — flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. I was able to finish my entire plate, which is always a good sign of quality and portion size.

Looked up best restaurants in SLC and this was number one on a lot of websites. We went on a Saturday evening and there was a wait for a seat. It was short though, about 10 minutes. The host is outside the restaurant so you’ll check in with them and then wait outside to be called in. The food was amazing. The queso dip was some of the best. I had the king prawns and they were extremely filling! I couldn’t finish it all in a sitting. Their famous mole was also delicious. Our waiter was super fast and friendly. For such a busy restaurant the food came out in record time. Our appetizer came out in 10 minutes and the food about 3 minutes after that. The food was amazing. No wonder this place is crowded 24/7. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for Mexican food in SLC.
